It’s a harsh penalty for handball against Kalifa Cisse from Shaun Maloney’s long-range shot and perhaps justice is done. Gareth Barry blasts his penalty high and wide.

Faye gives the ball away to Fletcher, who pings a first-time pass forward to Ronaldo. He’s got Taylor to beat, but that’s no problem - because the defender slides witlessly in, allowing Ronaldo to shift the ball slightly to the right and away from the challenge. He then scoots towards goal, rounds Harper, and slams the ball into an empty net.

Liverpool appear to be missing Jamie Carragher already. A disastrous attempt at playing offside leaves Tuncay free as a bird as he heads in a Stewart Downing free-kick from six yards.

A horrible error from Julio Arca, who heads the ball straight into the path of Fernando Torres. The striker coolly slots home to draw Liverpool level.

A brilliant free-kick from James McFadden, who wins the kick after Mathieu Flamini’s challenge. The striker lifts a central 20-yard free-kick over the wall and gets it to dip just in time. A question-mark over Manuel Almunia perhaps, who gets a hand to it but can’t keep it out.

Maik Taylor makes two fingertip saves from Cesc Fabregas and Alex Hleb but the Birmingham keeper then flaps at a corner under pressure from Emmanuel Adebayor and Theo Walcott stabs home his first Premier League goal. Taylor complains he has been fouled but it looks like he mis-timed his jump.

That must have been some half-time talk from Arsene Wenger. Theo Walcott cuts in from the right to rob Liam Ridgewell and arrows a stunning shot into the bottom corner. A fabulous start to the second half from the leaders.

Unbelievable. Stuart Parnaby cuts inside Gael Clichy and the Arsenal left-back brings down the Birmingham sub. Might have got a touch on the ball - but in any case, a very rash challenge. James McFadden lashes the spot-kick high past Manuel Almunia and the Blues look like they’ll get a point - despite being very much second-best this half.
