Argentina got over a lacklustre first half before turning on the style to beat USA 4-1 in their Copa America opener. Hernan Crespo bagged a brace in his debut appearance in the Copa America with the diminutive Pablo Aimar and summer transfer target of the season Carlos Tevez also both adding their names on the scoresheet.

Eddie Johnson’s shock opener for the Americans in the 8th minute.

Paraguay crushed Columbia 5-0 thanks to a hattrick from star man Roque Santa Cruz in their Group C opener in the Copa America. Supersub Salvador Cabanas also bagged a brace to seal the comprehensive win for the Guaraníes to leave Columbia in tatters after only one group match played so far.

Santa Cruz’s first after 30 minutes

Paraguay double their lead thanks to a replica of the first goal from Santa Cruz in the 46th minute.

Santa Cruz bags his the third of the day with a bullet header in the 80th minute.

Salvador Cabanas adds a fourth with a shot from outside the area in the 85th minute.

Cabanas’s second of the day to seal the hugely impressive win for the Guaraníes.

Mexico notched a shock 2-0 win over defending champions Brazil at the Copa America on Wednesday. Nervy Castillo’s brilliant solo effort in the 21st minute along with Ramon Morales’s sublime free kick eight minutes later sent Brazil reeling with their first defeat in Brazil head coach Dunga’s first competitive game in charge.




Ecuador Vs Chile Highlights

Chile twice came back from being a goal down to beat Ecuador 3-2 in a thriller to kickstart Group B with a bang.

Ecuador took the lead in the 15th minute through Wigan midfielder Jose Valencia before Chile equalised through Humberto Suazo five minutes later. Cristian Benitez then put Ecuador in front again after pouncing on a mistake from Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo but again saw their lead perish as inspired sub Carlos Villanueva helped set up Suazo for his second of the night before getting on the scoresheet himself with a sublime free kick from the edge of the area.

Bolivia came from behind twice to gatecrash Venezuela’s opening celebrations at the Copa America as the hosts were held to an thrilling 2-2 draw in their opening Group A encounter.

Giancarlo Maldonado gave the hosts the perfect start after 20 minutes but Bolivia equalised through Jaime Moreno deflected effort 19 minutes later. The impressive Ricardo Paez then put Venezuela in front again with a classy finish before being pegged back again by Juan Carlos Arce who was on hand to sweep home Gonzalo Galindo’s pass.

Peru got off to a flyer in their Copa America opener after dispatching Uruguay 3-0 in their Group A encounter. Miguel Villalta got Peru’s first after heading home from a corner in the 27th minute before Juan Carlos Mariño doubled his sides lead with an absolute stunner in the 70th minute. HSV’s striker José Paolo Guerrero then sealed the comprehensive win with a tap in after 88 minutes.

Sven’s The Man For Man City

Ex-England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has agreed a three-year deal at Manchester City according to reports from Sky Sports.

Sven has agreed a lucrative three-year contract at Eastlands, as prospective Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra’s advisors are confident the 59 year old Swede is the right man to bring Man City to greater heights.

The Swede trainer is also set to be handed a £50million transfer kitty which has led to speculation that a bid for Michael Owen is on the cards once Sven formally takes over the reigns at City.
