Wayne Bridge handles the ball as he challenges Aaron Lennon in the box - a great spot by the referee’s assistant. Dimitar Berbatov waits for Petr Cech to commit himself before putting the ball in the opposite corner.

Petr Cech was the Chelsea hero at the end of that second half but he’s undone all that good work. He comes to collect Jermaine Jenas’ floated free-kick but punches it straight on to Jonathan Woodgate’s face and the ball bounces over the line.

Chelsea booked a place in the final of the Carling Cup after a Joe Cole strike was enough to see off a plucky Everton side 3-1 on aggregate to set up a final with North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in February.

Spurs finally broke their winless run against their North London rivals Arsenal after thumping them 5-1 to booked a place in the final of the Carling Cup with a 6-2 win on aggregate. Jermaine Jenas, Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon and Steed Malbranque were all on the scoresheet as Spurs look forward to a potential clash with either Everton or Chelsea who play tonight at Goodison Park.
