Chile twice came back from being a goal down to beat Ecuador 3-2 in a thriller to kickstart Group B with a bang.
Ecuador took the lead in the 15th minute through Wigan midfielder Jose Valencia before Chile equalised through Humberto Suazo five minutes later. Cristian Benitez then put Ecuador in front again after pouncing on a mistake from Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo but again saw their lead perish as inspired sub Carlos Villanueva helped set up Suazo for his second of the night before getting on the scoresheet himself with a sublime free kick from the edge of the area.
