West Ham Vs Liverpool Highlights

Fernando Torres scored twice as Liverpool held off a brave fightback from West Ham to earn a deserved victory in a five-goal thriller at Upton Park.

A West Ham counter-attack breaks down and Fernando Torres picks up the ball on the left-hand edge of the area before heading directly for goal, cruising past two Hammers defenders before prodding the ball home at the near post. A superb individual goal.

Jamie Carragher shoves over Zavon Hines after he runs past him inside the area. Penalty. No doubt about the decision but what about the spot-kick itself? Alessandro Diamanti takes it, but slips as he makes contact with the ball. It loops into the top corner and it’s a goal.

Four minutes to go until half-time and Liverpool are back in front. Yossi Benayoun sends over a corner, Steven Gerrard rises to head it goalwards and Dirk Kuyt is in the right place to poke the ball over the line.

Alessandro Diamanti sees his free-kick deflected wide after Martin Skrtel sends Zavon Hines flying. From the resulting corner, Carlton Cole jumps to meet the ball at the near post and flicks his header into the net.

Zavon Hines loses possession for West Ham and Ryan Babel takes full advantage, bursting down the right and into the box. He dinks over a perfect cross for Fernando Torres, who nods the ball past a helpless Robert Green from the edge of the six-yard box.

Steven Gerrard scored twice as Liverpool went back to the top of the league.

What a start by the away side. Torres slides a beautiful ball down the inside-right channel. The West Ham back line are rooted to the spot as Gerrard breaks onto it from deep - he looks miles offside, but he’s well on - and rounds Green on the right before pinging the ball into the empty net.

Gerrard sends a low penalty towards the bottom-left corner, but it’s not well struck, allowing Green to save brilliantly. Sadly for the keeper, the ball comes back across the face of the empty net, and Gerrard can follow the rebound home from two yards.

Another break upfield by Liverpool, but this one counts. Kuyt zips down the right (as much as Kuyt can zip) before standing one up towards Babel, free in the centre. Babel’s header from close range is parried by Green, but the keeper can do nothing as Babel hammers the rebound home from two yards.
