Liverpool win a free-kick about 35 yards out on the right. It looks for all the world as if Fabio Aurelio is going to lift it into the box - but spotting a tempting gap, he shoots instead, making a scrambling Petr Cech look more than a touch foolish. One down, two to go for Liverpool.

Referee Luis Medina Cantelejo spots Branislav Ivanovic hauling Xabi Alonso back with both hands as the free-kick comes over and awards the penalty. A brave - but correct - decision. Alonso converts the spot-kick and within half an hour, Liverpool are now only a goal away from the semi-finals.

Nicolas Anelka crosses low from the right and Martin Skrtel is challenging Didier Drogba at the near post. Drogba gets the slightest of touches, but Pepe Reina fumbles it into the net for what I think is an own goal .

That one’s definitely gone in. In fact, it almost broke the net. Alex steps up and unleashes a viciously swerving free-kick from 35 yards, leaving Pepe Reina grasping thin air.

Xabi Alonso gives the ball away as Liverpool try to play out of defence and Frank Lampard quickly passes to Didier Drogba before chasing into the area to slot in the cross. Game over surely.

Ten minutes remaining… Lucas makes space for the shot outside the box and it comes off Michael Essien to beat Petr Cech. The Reds now need two goals.

Albert Riera produces a lovely cross from the left and Dirk Kuyt gets ahead of the Chelsea defence to bullet a header past Petr Cech. One more goal needed for Liverpool, seven minutes left.
Great work by Didier Drogba, passing to Nicolas Anelka, who finds Frank Lampard to turn in a lovely right-footed shot. Game over. Maybe.
